Rittenberger JC, Callaway CW. Transport of Patients After Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: Closest Facility or Most Appropriate Facility? Ann Emerg Med 2009 Mar 20.
In this issue, Spaite et al1 explored the effect of transport time on survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. They noted that transport interval was not related to survival. The authors suggest that these data support the potential safety for transport to specialized care facilities even if those facilities are farther away.2 These observations and conclusions add to the discussion about regionalization of care for certain critical illnesses.
